The Four Winds Collection is pleased to offer a recent acquisition of the following Limited Edition prints from one of the world's leading painter of thoroughbred race horses. Richard Stone Reeves new issues are normally sold out within a few months. Reeves major prints are just about impossible to find and even in 1982 they were rarely under $1500.00. The 1981 Arlington Million print called "Approaching the Start" was newly issued in 1982 at $350.00. A few of the larger format Limited Edition prints are remarqued. Remarqued prints include an original sketch at the bottom of the print making the print "one of a kind". The three large formats that are remarqued where done during the printing and were not individually drawn after the printing. All the prints are matted and framed. Across the top of each print is the following. "Published in (date) by The Newmarket Gallery of New York City, Printed in the U.S.A. by Triton Press Inc." or "Published in (date) by The Newmarket Gallery of New York City and Mr. Richard Stone Reeves of Oldwick, New Jersey. Printed in the U.S.A. by Triton Press Inc." Usually the published date is the same or one year later then the print date. Most of the prints have labels identifying the framer as "The House of Heydenryk", 417 E. 76 St., New York, N.Y. 10021. The House of Heydenryk is considered to be the finest framer in New York. Most frames are in good to excellent shape with some minor paint loss from handling over the years. Frames are Hogarth type either black (most) or brown with gold trim on both the inside and outside of the frame. Framing and matting cost are estimated in todays dollars at $300-$400 per print. (Source House of Heydenryk) One other print has a label from the Coconut Grove Gallery in Florida. We will discount for multiple purchases of the same numbered series (316 and 498). Shipping, packaging and handling cost within the U.S.A. will run around $45-$60 for the large format prints and will be paid by the purchaser. Below each print will be the Item No. and the asking price if one has been set. Asking Price Information: The asking price was determined based on a number of factors. One factor was the current secondary market replacement value for Mr. Reeves limited editions. Replacement value can be considered a value for insurance purposes and does not necessarily represent market value. Market value can be higher or lower then replacement value. Replacement value information obtained from a gallery that specializes in racing prints. Another factor was the current equine art market where comparisons were made to new issues and secondary market values for similarly well know equine artist. All prints have been priced below the replacement value. Personally I think Mr. Reeves prints are superior to any other equine artist in the last 20 years. Image Reproduction Process: Images were produced from scanning of color photographs taken with a 35mm camera. There might be some color variations between different images because of lighting variations and viewing angle. Most of the prints will have multiple images to show different details. Some images will be cropped to better show the image. We also have a few sets of photographs available to loan out for inspection purposes. All the prints were also video taped for additional images. Important Notice: All prints are copyrighted by the artist or the publisher and are not allowed to reproduced without their permission. |
